If you know me, you know that I’ve undergone many surgeries throughout the course of my entrepreneurship journey. Much of my journey now is getting back to my health and wellness. And, I’m really excited about the changes that I’ve already made in my life.

Along my health and wellness journey, I met MaryLou Hunter, who later became my business partner here at Pivot Point Advantage. She is a holistic health practitioner, a holistic health coach, a life coach, and a master NLP coach.

At the beginning of our relationship, MaryLou was responsible for holding me accountable for my health and wellness journey. MaryLou began her journey into holistic health over 25 years ago because of health issues she was having.

Why a Healthy Lifestyle?

The biggest impact MaryLou has had on me was her advice around balancing wellness and life as an entrepreneur. They really do go hand-in-hand. I know many of you struggle with the balance, as do I at times.

Let’s be honest, living a life as an entrepreneur can take a HUGE toll on your health. How many of us work crazy schedules? I’m talking twelve to fourteen hours a day. It’s difficult to find time to exercise, to prepare a healthy meal, or to eat a healthy meal out. However, it’s incredibly important to make a healthy lifestyle a priority, especially for us entrepreneurs.

As entrepreneurs, we have some of the WORST health habits. I think we all know this. It happens because we are hyper-focused on building our business at the expense of our health. We don’t have set schedules to accommodate our health goals.

How many of us have worked out all of our business goals but completely neglected our health goals or personal goals?

However, there is a starting point to reduce your stress, eat healthier, and get more active. Because the better your body runs, the better you’ll be able to run your business.

And, that’s your goal, right? As an entrepreneur, you want to be healthy enough to enjoy all of those benefits of entrepreneurship. When you strive to live a healthy life, you will thrive in your business and your personal life, too.

MaryLou’s Most Impactful Tip

How many of you sit at your desk all day looking at your computer? Or, you drive most of the day. Or meet a client at Starbucks for coffee. Sitting. You’re sitting, sitting, sitting. ALL-DAY!

I want to let you know that when you sit all day, your body picks up on all of the wrong signals. Your body begins to think that it’s in energy famine. Your body will automatically go into an emergency state which will release more hormones than normal and it will actually create the wrong signals.

Your body will say, “There is something wrong here. I feel like I’m going into famine.” This causes your liver to signal other things in your body to consume more calories and protect your fat stores. This creates an energy resource of belly fat! This is what happens when you sit all day.

So, you want to create a habit of movement. Think of ways you can do something other than sitting during meetings. Take a walk. You don’t have to always be sitting. Our bodies are built for movement.

When you follow this simple tip (and the additional tips MaryLou has shared with me), you’re going to find that your mood, productivity, energy level, and happiness will improve. And, as a result, you will maintain wellness and you are going to be healthier.
