Fine or ok.

When someone asks you how you are, and you say “fine” or “ok” that’s probably because your life is just that. For most entrepreneurs, salespeople, and business owners they strive to be “excellent” and not just ok.  That’s why I always invite my coaching clients to stop and look at their lives.  Where in your life are you not operating at 100%?  When we figure that out, we strategize to get them  there. This success series will help you stop and reevaluate where in your life you might need some assistance. The next time you are asked how you are, you can answer honestly “EXCELLENT!!!”

The most important thing for you to do is to get comfortable with being uncomfortable.  The biggest mistake that entrepreneurs, sales professionals, and business owners make is getting comfortable. It doesn’t matter how uncomfortable their comfortable is, they stay there.  We call this the “grey zone”.  The grey zone is what you know you know.  No matter how much it doesn’t work or isn’t serving you, it’s the area that you know.  And when you know that area, that’s where you get “stuck.”  That’s where you get stagnant.  It’s continuing to do the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. The exact definition of insanity, as the famous quote from Albert Einstein declares.

Are you uncomfortable?

If we look at the way successful people have “made it” to their success, you’ll realize they did things that were oftentimes extremely uncomfortable.  Why?  Success lies in the uncomfortable.  Success lies when you turn around and you allow yourself to do something new on a continual basis. The more it makes you scared, nauseous, makes those butterflies go crazy in your stomach, that’s the gauge for knowing you’re on the right path.

I know every time I’m getting ready to do something and I get that feeling in my gut and my palms start to sweat and my heart starts beating really hard, I know I’m heading in the right direction. I’m doing something I’ve never done and will undoubtedly be getting some results I’ve never had. Get comfortable with being uncomfortable. It’s one of the first things I discuss with my clients and students because it’s THAT important.  That is where success lies.. having the ability to be able to step into selling and servicing. Being available to your prospective clients and stretching your mindset to being able to get out of the easy chair, to get out of the comfort zone.

The grey zone…it’s what we all know.

That’s why we stay there.  Think about it…if you stay there, you’ll always get the same results that you have gotten.  Step out of it and allow yourself to take a big step and stay there for a bit no matter the discomfort.  Then take a big step again and stay there, and again. Stay there until your grey zone (your comfort zone) is so far away that you turn around and realize that you’re finally on the path to what you have always wanted, dreamed of and desired.

What can you do today that will scare the life out of you and still move you towards your goals?  Make a list and start doing them.  Remember that you want your grey zone to be a distant memory.  Stagnation doesn’t allow for growth and success.

Put yourself in environments (mastermind groups, personal and professional development arenas, personal and group coaches, etc.) that test you. Learn the things you didn’t know that you didn’t know. Turn them into what you DO know. Now you can move through it and past it so that you can get to the point where you no longer “don’t know what you don’t know”
