It’s the holiday season again, and this year I challenge you to avoid the holiday hibernation period and get out there and be seen and heard. Holiday hibernation is that time at the end of the year when we allow the excuse of, “I’m too busy,” to hold us back from finishing Q4 strong and setting ourselves up for success in the new year.

Now, I’m not saying you need to skip out on all the fun and focus strictly on work. Use the holiday season to your advantage to achieve the success you’ve always dreamed of. Holiday parties are great for networking, and they are an important place to connect with the people you appreciate. They are an excellent opportunity to build on and nurture existing relationships and express gratitude to the people you surround yourself with. And in between attending holiday parties, it’s important to start to consider your success and how you will find it in the upcoming year. There is so much you can do to plan your path to success, and here are just a few helpful tips to take with you into the new year.

Consider who you will surround yourself with.

Who are the people you include in your life? Reflect on who you are surrounding yourself with both in your personal and professional life. What value are they adding? And if they’re not adding value, why do you spend your time and energy on them? It is so important to maintain relationships with the people around you who lift you up and make you better. It’s also time to let go of relationships that no longer serve you. People are in your life for a reason, a season, or a lifetime. Ensure you acknowledge that fact and move into the new year with the right squad.

Reflect on the good and the bad.

It’s time to rejoice in all the successes you’ve had this past year, the aspects of your year you absolutely loved, and all of the goals you met. Take some time to think about how you achieved the things you wanted to and how you met your goals so you can replicate those action steps in the coming year. But you should also take time to celebrate this year’s not-so-great moments because you won’t be making the same mistakes again after this year. You have the opportunity to consider how you could have done things differently and make those changes next year. Reflect on goals you were unable to meet and think about how you can meet them in the future or if those goals are even important to you any longer. Highlight all of your learning and use it!

Craft a plan for the upcoming year.

Take everything you’ve learned through last year’s successes and disappointments and apply it to your upcoming year. Now is the time to set your goals and intentions for next year. Think about your personal life, your work life, the success of your business, your self-care and wellness, and your ability to spend time with family and friends. Craft goals in all of these areas. When you know what you want, it’s far easier to get it. By the end of next year, you’ll be shocked to see all you’ve accomplished when you know what you’re working toward and have clarity about your vision. You can speak your dreams into existence, and this is one such way of doing that.

Get focused on who your business serves.

It’s time to get laser-focused on who your business serves and who wants your services. It’s also important to know who it doesn’t serve or no longer serves. If you can envision who they are, they become easy to find, network with, and market to. Take some time to reflect on who you found success with during the past year, and create a clear definition of who that person is. Stop chasing other demographics and start building relationships with this one.

Shift your mindset.

Success is a science, and you can shift your mindset to start your journey toward it today. Shift your attitudes and behaviors so your motivation and momentum are no longer temporary. You are in charge of your success, and you are also the person inhibiting it. You need to get out of your way, so you can get on your way, so you can have your way.
