When we look at others’ journeys to success, we see it in small snapshots. We see the zero to hero, outhouse to penthouse story. We are not always privy to the moments between their pain and success. These journeys are often much longer and more arduous than we make them out to be. These journeys are often full of failure, but when we compare ourselves to others, we are only blinded by their success as compared to our own.

On the way to success, there are some things you must consider, including that you must have a strong vision of what success looks like to you. Often, we create our definition solely around financial success. However, you should strive for abundance in all areas of your life: mind, body, and soul. Rewire yourself to find success outside of your business, and don’t let other facets of your life suffer as you only strive toward your financial goals. The grind will remind you that money is only a tool and that what really matters is everything else. You are not your material things.

You must also note that no work is above you. Most of the people you see at the top of their field started from the bottom and maintained a positive mental attitude and an eye on the next potential opportunity. They had the insight to understand that saying yes to even the most minor opportunities could lead them to the next step in their journey. Remember, people are attracted to those who bring positivity into their lives and lift them up. Be this person in business and in your life.

Additionally, it’s important to understand that there will be peaks and valleys on your journey toward success. Have a plan for what you will do at your bottom. This is often when you will meet your true self. This introduction can make or break you, and it is at this moment that you will have to focus your mindset on what you want rather than what you don’t have. Don’t trick yourself into believing you’re not good at the very thing that can bring your success. Instead, embrace the learning in failure. Reflect on what worked, what didn’t, and what you can change going forward.

Know that everything you do is a choice. Only you control your destiny. The only thing you are unable to control is what is happening in your environment, but you get to control your responses. This is when you can choose to really work for something or find an excuse as to why you can’t. You can speak your success into existence by choosing to do the hard stuff. Choose to go full out in everything you do. How you do one thing is how you do everything, and how you do the small things is how you do the big things, so stop sedating yourself and running on autopilot, and stop ignoring that feeling that you are meant for something more.

As you get your footing in the business world, start to make authentic connections and be honest and clear about your product. Believe in yourself and what you are selling, and speak your influence. Treat every customer, and every job like it is your first. When you begin to see success, know that others are watching, and each day, you have an impact on someone. Raise others up as you embrace your own success and notice how your success trickles down to others.
